About Us

A platform for artisans,
built on heritage

Kiron Foundation was formed with an idea to create a platform for the underprivileged artisans community of North-east India — to give them recognition in the world for their inherited craft, and a better life to live.

This platform was established with a vision to bring back and to preserve the centuries-old traditional handwoven crafts and sericulture activities which are gradually fading away in the middle of fast fashion and mill-made chaos.

"In a typical consumer driven market, the quality of life of artisans is often undermined. Kiron Foundation is driven to change this by prioritising the upliftment of the workers and the preservation of their ethnic culture."

We initiated this in 2016 from Majuli island. Today we work with 250+ farmers, silk rearers, spinners & weavers, and have planted over 5,000 Kesseru, Mulberry, Cassava and Castor plants all across the island.

What drives our mission

From farming to the finished product, the entire process goes through many hands — creating job opportunities that honour the artistic heritage of our people.

🌿
01
Artisan Recognition

Kiron Foundation prioritises the upliftment of workers and the preservation of their ethnic culture — placing artisans at the centre of everything we do.

🌍
02
Green Textile Industry

By bringing sericulture back to natural processes, we build a zero carbon footprint, earth-friendly textile alternative — a community-based industry that does not damage the planet.

🌳
03
Forest-Dependent Fashion

Establishing forest-dependent fashion — preserving indigenous textile arts while building plantations that protect Majuli island from soil erosion.

Forestation

Growing a forest to clothe the world

The growing fast-fashion industry causes massive damage to the planet. We are building a community-based industry that does not add to this damage — using natural sericulture and traditional handloom weaving on Majuli island.

We believe that our idea of forestation may help Majuli island from soil erosion — making our craft a genuine act of ecological stewardship.

"Ask your brand — who made my clothes? And what's in my clothes? That's where the changes begin — towards an ethical journey to the fashion world and a better livelihood for every farmer, rearer, spinner, weaver and sewer."
